Primary Schools

🀞🏻 Why

The purpose of The Mindful Digital Collective is to empower children in Year 5 and 6 to become responsible and creative digital citizens. Our goal is to prepare them for secondary school by helping them develop essential skills for navigating the digital world. By fostering empathy, problem-solving, and critical thinking, we aim to equip children with the tools they need to face digital challenges confidently and responsibly as they grow older.

🎨 How

In the club, children won't be sitting behind a screen for an hour. Instead, they'll engage in hands-on activities like interviewsbrainstorming sessions, and sketching ideas to solve real-world digital challenges. This approach fosters creativity, teamwork, and effective communication, helping children understand the problems they may face in the digital world and develop solutions collaboratively.

πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ What

The Mindful Digital Collective is an after-school club designed for children in Year 5 and 6 of primary schools. Over the course of 6 weeks, children participate in one-hour weekly sessions that focus on real-life digital challenges. We provide all materials, and the club is free of charge. All we need is access to a room with a screen and a whiteboard. Every child plays an active role in the team, ensuring they’re fully engaged in the process.

Here’s a snapshot of the details:

  • It's a 6-week club (although we can be flexible depending on when you'd like to run it).

  • Ideally, around 7-8 children to begin with. Its important the group feel like a team

  • The sessions last for 1 hour.

  • It's free, (we don’t believe children should need to pay for this) and we will provide all the materials. We would just need a room, a screen, and a whiteboard.

  • Ideally, it’s for Year 5-6, but Year 6 would be preferred as it would be more useful for them at this stage.

🎯 Our 2025 goal

We aim to run a club or deliver talks to every primary school in the Bridport area. By doing this, we will assess whether the children benefit from the program. If they do, and we receive positive feedback from them, the parents and teachers, we plan to apply for funding to sustain and expand the initiative. If we can help every child become a little more mindful online, and empower them to just stop and think, we’ll consider it a success, knowing we’ve made a difference.
